The Air Race Classic (ARC), the all-women cross-country airplane race, will be coming to Fairmont on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20. Forty-nine airplanes will execute high-speed flybys over a timing line at Fairmont Municipal Airport as teams race the clock on their way from Jackson, Tennessee, to Welland, Ontario.   This year's course covers 2,538 miles. The 109 racers have four days to complete the course, which will start in Jackson at 8 a.m. June 18 and end in Welland at 5 p.m. June 21. COMMISSIONERS WILL CONSIDER A PROSECUTION CONTRACT WITH THE CITY OF FAIRMONT, AND UPDATE AND CONSIDER A REQUEST FOR PROPOSED PURCHASES FOR MARTIN COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL. PRESENTATIONS WILL BE HEARD ON THE MARTIN COUNTY SUMMER YOUTH INTERN PROGRAM INTRODUCTIONS AND AN UPDATE FROM THE MARTIN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY AT TUESDAY'S MEETING AT THE MARTIN COUNTY COURTHOUSE.

That means just six units of type O blood are available for every 100,000 people, but at least 14 are needed every day. The Agri-Business Committee of the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce and the Agriculture Future of America (AFA) are pleased to announce the Ag Scholarship winners for 2019.  Two $4,200 scholarships were awarded this year to Andrew Moeller and Nicholas Potthoff. Andrew will be graduating from Fairmont Area Schools this June and will be attending the South Dakota State University in the fall. Nicholas will be graduating from Martin County West this June and will be attending University of Minnesota - St. Paul in the fall. The Fairmont Area School Board Tuesday accepted a bid from Weather Technologies, Inc. for repair of the roof of the performing arts center at Fairmont High School. Two bids were received and reviewed by building and grounds director, Tyler Garrison, who recommended WTI for the low bid of $120,632. The project will be done in the fall months. Board member Dan Brookens gave a brief operations committee report saying that they received requests to save 40 seats from the performing arts center to be auctioned off during the 2019 homecoming game. THE PROGRAM ARRANGED BY THE MARTIN COUNTY V F W POST 1222 AND LADIES AUXILIARY AND FAIRMONT AMERICAN LEGION POST 36 AND LADIES AUXILIARY. KEYNOTE SPEAKER WAS ERNIE NUSS WHO TOLD OF WAR EXPERIENCES OF SOME MARTIN COUNTY VETERANS, AND HOW THEIR SERVICE HELPED MAKE THE COUNTY A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE TODAY.
