SENATOR ROSEN-TAX RELIEF

2019-05-01T11:22:05-05:00

The Minnesota Senate passed a comprehensive tax relief bill with bipartisan support today. The bill will hold 96% of Minnesota’s taxpayers harmless, and benefits about 50% of taxpayers with tax cuts. It expands tax relief to seniors, parents, small businesses, veterans, and encourages affordable housing investment and reduces property tax burdens. Most importantly, it will not increase revenue to the state budget in a time of surplus. “Minnesota taxpayers have been funding this state’s unsustainable spending trajectory for far too long,” said Sen. Julie Rosen . “Minnesota has more than enough money; rather than continue to ask families for [...]

FAIRMONT TREE DUMP

2019-04-25T10:51:30-05:00

The City of Fairmont tree dump and compost area is in poor condition due to wet weather and frost boils. Also, the township road (100th Street) leading out to this area has frost boil conditions that make driving difficult. Please no large trucks. If you have to use this area put the material as close to the existing piles as possible. Please consider these conditions when planning your spring projects. We are trying to keep the area accessible to everyone but if conditions continue to worsen we may have to close it until conditions improve. Anyone with questions should [...]

SCHOOL BOARD

2019-04-24T10:56:38-05:00

The Fairmont School Board on Tuesday approved waiving five of nine inclement weather days for staff. There will be no requirement for students to make up inclement weather days. For teachers, June 4-5 will be required in-service days. The remaining 16 hours will be made up through individual staff development or curricular development, as directed by building administrators. “Even with us losing nine days, we are still over in hours required for students because we have longer days than most public schools in Minnesota,” according to Superintendent Joe Brown. The Fairmont Area School Board approved the 2019-20 school year [...]
