The Fairmont Area School Board Tuesday acted on personnel issues of medical leave,extended contract ,retirement and resignation and accepted a donation from Kwik Trip,as part of its Milk Moola Program, of $151.05 to Fairmont Elementary to be used for student activities. Shopko Corporate announced late Thursday they’ll keep the Fairmont location open. In a release the company says after careful consideration and conversations with community stakeholders, Shopko has made the decision to keep its Fairmont store open. “Store closings are never an easy decision, but following our announcement we received significant feedback from the community on the value of this Shopko store,” Russ Steinhorst, Shopko CEO, said. “Based on this information, and receiving financial support from our landlord we have reevaluated this store and are happy to announce we will keep this store open.” The company says they are extremely grateful [...]

The Fairmont Shopko store to close. Retailer Shopko announcing Wednesday morning they’ve voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Shopko also announced it will be closing an additional 38 stores, relocating over 20 optical centers to freestanding locations, and conducting an auction process for its pharmacy business. Locally, the stores in Fairmont and Estherville will be closing. The company says the optical shop in Fairmont will transition to a free standing location. No dates have been announced on when the stores will close.
