FAIRMONT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MET MONDAY. THEY ELECTED OFFICERS FOR THE NEW YEAR. ANDY NOLL REMAINS AS PRESIDENT, AMY LONG WAS CHOSEN AS NEW VICE-PRESIDENT AND RICH JOHNSON REMAINS SECRETARY TREASURER. MIKE WUBBENA BECAME A NEW MEMBER, REPLACING BILL CRAWFORD WHO RETIRED AND RESIGNED HIS POSITION. THE BOARD IS NOW IN SEARCH OF A NEW MEMBER TO REPLACE WENDY VOSS WHO RESIGNED FROM HER POST DUE TO NEW EMPLOYMENT OUT OF TOWN. The biggest discussion at Monday's Fairmont City Council meeting was about open discussion. The public will no longer be required to fill out a form requesting to speak at a Fairmont City Council meeting. The council rescinded the requirement Monday after changing the wording of the original motion. In March 2017, the council voted to require members of the public who wished to speak at the council meetings fill out a form which included their name, address, phone number and topic to be addressed and submit the form by the Wednesday prior to the council meeting. Two new members were sworn in Tuesday at the Fairmont Area School Board meeting. They are Mari Myren and Mike Edman. Rufus Rodriquez was also sworn in after his re-election in November. An election of officers also took place. Rufus Rodriguez was chosen president, Nicole Green vice president, Dan Brookens clerk and Julie Laue treasurer. Fairmont Area Schools has received a rebate check for $152,000 following a lighting replacement project. A representative from Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency presented the check during the Fairmont School Board meeting Tuesday.
