The Martin County Board Tuesday heard from Fairmont Economic Development Coordinator Linsey Preuss, who is seeking a tax abatement for CHS Inc., related to a proposed $100 million expansion project. Commissioners approved a motion to schedule a required public hearing prior to any action on the abatement. The hearing date will be 10 a.m. Sept. 3. The also agreed that at least two commissioners would join a committee to work on a multi-housing abatement project with Pruess for all of Martin County. Fairmont’s Night Out will be held tonight from 6-8 p.m. With a meal served at Gomsrud Park. Former Fairmont City Council member  Darin  Rahm will serve more than three years in prison for theft by swindle. A Lyon County District Court judge ruled this week and  the 49 year old Rahm was sentenced for crimes related to his work as the former director of the Marshall Convention and Visitors Bureau. Rahm was sentenced on seven counts of theft. Each count carried a separate sentence, ranging from 366 days to 68 months in prison. The judge ruled that Rahm will serve all the sentences concurrently. A  Le Center man has been charged in Faribault County District Court with felony criminal vehicular operation following a collision between a pick-up truck and a motorcycle last week.. Authorities were called to a motorcycle crash on highway 109, west of Delavan early last thursday morning. 36 year old Tyler Neal of Delavan was found lying in the road, with significant injuries. A Fairmont man is sentenced to 15 years of probation for a fatal crash that happened in March of 2018. Last month, Tyler Richard Byers pleaded guilty in Martin County to one count of Criminal Vehicular Homicide. Three counts of criminal vehicular homicide and three counts of third degree DWI were dismissed. Authorities say Byers was driving on Highway 263 in Rolling Green Township just after midnight on March 11, 2018, when he rolled the vehicle.
