The Fairmont Martins took an 11-6 decision on Sunday afternoon in Luverne against the Redbirds to claim the Region 13C amateur baseball championship. Derek Shoen was the winning pitcher in relief for the Martins, who scored 5 runs in the top of the 12th inning for the winning margin. The Martins won the series two games to one.

 

Fairmont advances to the Class C State Tournament with a first-round bye as the Region Champion. They will play on Saturday, August 24 at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the first round game between Maple Lake and Farming. The game is slated to be held at the Mini Met in Jordan.

 

Luverne qualifies as the second seed and will take on Kimball on Saturday, August 17th at 1:30 p.m. in Belle Plaine.

 

Also on Sunday, Jackson edged Windom 6-5 to claim the final Region 13C playoff qualifier spot. The Bulls first-round game at state will be Sunday, August 18th. 1:30 p.m. in Jordan against St. Joseph.
