ST. PAUL –Martin and Murray counties are now approved for FEMA Individual Assistance after the severe storms and flooding of June 16 – July 4. Homeowners and renters in Martin and Murray counties may now apply for disaster assistance from FEMA. Previously, 19 counties were approved for FEMA Individual Assistance. To apply with FEMA, you can go online at DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA App on your phone or call 800-621- 3362. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds firearm and muzzleloader hunters who want to harvest antlerless deer in a deer permit area designated as antlerless permit lottery this hunting season to purchase their license by Thursday, Sept. 5. Hunters who purchase their license on or before this date are automatically entered into the lottery for the deer permit area or special hunt area they declare. Successful applicants will receive a postcard in the mail authorizing them to take an antlerless deer using their regular license in that antlerless permit lottery area. A 76-year old Rochester man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on I-90 in Faribault County on Wednesday morning. A 2005 Chevy Silverado was eastbound on I-90 in Jo Daviess Township near mile marker 117, when the driver lost control and rolled into the median. The accident, reported at 8:32 a.m., was responded to by the Faribault County Sheriff, Blue Earth Police, Fire & Ambulance. The victim's name will be released upon notification of next-of-kin.

CREST is holding a Low Vision Support Group that provides reassurance and assistance to people living with vision related problems.  You are free to share what’s bothering you and learn about ways to combat and/or live with low vision. A fishing event titled "Cops And Bobbers" will be held in Fairmont on Tuesday, July 30th at Gomsrud Park. The event is open to kids age 10-14 with all equipment, bait and tackle provided. Pre-registration is required, sign up at the Fairmont CER website. Space is limited for the event, which will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. that night.   Fairmont Night Out will be held at the Fairmont Aquatic Park on the evening of Tuesday, August 6th. A special screening of the 1984 Prince movie "Purple Rain" is scheduled for July 27th at Target Center in downtown Minneapolis. Members of Prince's estate are hosting the showing on July 27th, which is the 40th anniversary of the icon film's release. Tickets for the Purple Rain celebration cost 19-99. The event is from 4pm to 8pm in the Timberwolves arena and some of the movie co-creators will speak and Purple Rain memorabilia will be on display. The Sinn family of Trimont has been named Martin County’s “2024 Farm Family of the Year” by the University of Minnesota. Dean and Cindy both grew up in farming families near Trimont. Dean‘s parents were Ervin and Vivian Sinn and Cindy’s were Bob and Katy Olson. After college and their marriage, Dean began farming with his brother Jim. Six years later, the Sinns purchased a farm site in Elm Creek Township where they raised their three children, Jeff, Ryan, and Kelly.
