Health officials reported 311 new COVID-19 cases and 15 more deaths in Minnesota as of Sunday.

The Minnesota Department of Health said that as of Sunday mornign the state has seen 30,471 cases and 1,298 deaths since the pandemic began. Most of those deaths — 1,030 — have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities.

Nearly 370 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized as of Sunday, with almost 190 patients in an intensive care unit. Overall, 3,610 people have been hospitalized since the pandemic began.

Iowa health officials say the state has 328 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death linked to the coronavirus.

The Iowa Department of Public Health reported Sunday that the state had a total of 23,879 cases of COVID-19 and 651 deaths linked to the virus.

Officials said that Saturday was the first day since April 6 that no additional deaths related to the coronavirus were reported. The one new death was reported Sunday.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness.

Since the outbreak began earlier this year, a total of 224,664 people have been tested in Iowa. Out of the 23,879 Iowans who tested positive, 14,359 have recovered.
