The City of Fairmont and Martin County are ,combining funding sources from the Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, and have created a pool of $1 million to be used for grants to local small businesses and non-profits. The Fairmont City Council approved the creation of a small business grant program Monday, securing the city’s $250,000 contribution, and the Martin County Board is expected to approve its $750,000 portion today. The entire fund is open to all county businesses and non-profits with 50 or fewer employees. The amounts of grants can range from $500 to $10,000 for now but could be changed depending on how many requests are made.
The council also approved a contract with A E M, Workforce Solutions,L L C for human resources counseling services in the amount not to exceed $15,000 and will continue into 2021 subject to budget approval. The council approved a request that Woodland Avenue from Albion Avenue to Lake Park Boulevard be closed to automobile traffic on Halloween night Oct. 31 from 4:30-7:30 pm.
The council set a public hearing on proposed assessments for the Lake Avenue Reconstruction Project for Mon. Oct. 12,2020 at 5:30 pm at the Fairmont City Hall Council Chambers.
