On Saturday, Feb. 4, seventeen varsity participants of the Fairmont Speech Team competed at The “Minneapple” Speech Tournament at Apple Valley High School. At this metro area invitational, there were 27 schools from six different states and around 700 students competing. The coaching staff and varsity members of the Fairmont Speech Team value competing in the metro area for the early-season competitive experience and preparation for the National Qualifying Tournament in March.
At The “Minneapple” Speech Tournament, Fairmont Senior Solveig Senf was the champion in varsity discussion out of 50 competitors at the tournament in this category. In the school’s speech program history, only a small group of Fairmont speakers have achieved the feat of winning 1st place in their category at The “Minneapple.” Congratulations to Solveig on this amazing accomplishment.
The Fairmont Speech Team heads to Mankato Loyola on Saturday, Feb. 11, to compete at the “Crusader Classic” Speech Invitational. This year, the Fairmont Speech Team has around 40 participants from grades 7-12. The speech team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker, and Miles Duffey.
