|Fairmont High School Robotics – Team 2847/The MegaHertz, in its fourteenth season, competed in the Northern Lights FIRST Robotics Regional Competition in Duluth, MN, last week (March 2-5).
The team’s deadly accurate scoring and speedy, reliable climb earned them an 8-1 record after a day and a half of qualification matches. At the end of qualification play, the MegaHertz was ranked #4 in the field of 53 teams. This fourth place ranking guaranteed the team a spot in the playoffs.
Team 2847 became the #3 Alliance Captain, choosing the teams from Edina High School and Park High School in Cottage Grove to round out their alliance. In the quarter-finals, the #3 Alliance led by Fairmont’s Team 2847 defeated the #6 Alliance decisively 68-50 and 69-28.
Next the Fairmont Alliance knocked off the #2 Alliance with scores of 80-75 and 64-51 in the semi-final round. Alliance #3 then faced the powerhouse #1 Alliance consisting of Greenbush, Pequot Lakes and Eden Prairie, Minnesota, in the championship. Fairmont’s Alliance was defeated by the #1 Alliance 46-100 and 57-99 to become the competition runner ups.
The MegaHertz also received the competition’s Quality Award from event judges. This award acknowledges machine robustness in concept and fabrication.
