The Fairmont Area School Board met in regular session on Tuesday evening. The board heard a presentation from Sara Gudahl, director of the spring play, and students who will be performing roles in the comedy “The Internet Is A Distract-Oh Look, A Kitten!” which is scheduled to be performed on April 9th and 10th. The Fairmont Teacher of the Year, Heather Stromberg, was recognized as well. Stromberg, who is in her 11th year of teaching Kindergarten at Fairmont Elementary, reached the semifinals of the Minnesota Teacher of the Year competition.
The Board heard financial summaries, Superintendent Andy Traetow gave an update on the Vocational Building expansion project, and the board approved the retirement of teacher’s aide Cindy Opheim at the end of the school year. Also approved were the resignations of High School English teacher Nick Johnson, Elementary ELL teacher Leah Moreno, and Special Education paraprofessional Thad Abel.
Donations to the schools FFA and CTE programs were accepted, and activity fees and event admissions for next year were both approved. Both will be unchanged from this year.
The next meeting of the board will be a work session on Tuesday, March 22nd at 5 p.m. There will not be a regular agenda or board actions taken during this meeting as it will be a session for setting district goals and plans.
