State Champion Fairmont Cardinals

Fairmont defeated Roseau 7-0 to win their first ever state baseball championship at Target Field on Friday.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, when two Roseau errors opened the floodgates for all 7 Cardinal runs to score. Senior Eli Anderson drove in two of those runs with a triple, his fifth of the three-game tournament, smashing the previous record of three triples which had been set in 1981. Fellow Senior Zach Jorgensen pitched the distance in the final game, working out of trouble with the help of two double plays turned by the defense and seven strikeouts.

Jorgensen, Anderson, Jacob Crissinger, and Jack Kosbab were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Fairmont had been to the state baseball tournament ten times previously, with three runner-up finishes (most recently in 2014) and three third-place finishes in those appearances.
