Federated Rural Electric’s 86th Annual Meeting will be held Wednesday, August 4.
Thanks to last year’s Bylaws amendment, this is the first year that ballots were mailed to all Federated members around July 1. Members who return their signed, barcoded, postage-paid envelope in the blank inner envelope with ballots will receive a $10 bill credit. Ballots must be received in Federated’s office by 4:30 p.m. August 3.
Co-op members who misplaced their mailed ballots or prefer to may vote in person at the drive-in Annual Meeting that will be conducted August 4 at the Martin County Fairgrounds in Fairmont from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Members should bring their barcoded Annual Meeting registration card or barcoded ballot envelope for fast registration; onsite manual registration is also available. Members can only vote once.
Members will elect two members for the Board of Directors for Districts Five and Six. District Five director candidates are David Meschke, Welcome; and Stuart T. Smart, Welcome. The District Six candidate is Bruce Brockmann, Granada. The Nominating Committee candidate for District At-Large is Tim Mailahn, Fairmont.
The Federated Bylaws amendment adds arbitration for dispute resolution, rather than the court system. Federated’s Board approved the proposed Bylaws amendment.
Federated members received the July Connections newsletter that outlined this proposed Bylaws’ change and the candidates’ biographies. This newsletter can also be found on the co-op’s website: www.federatedrea.coop /connections.
A brief meeting will occur at the Martin County Fairgrounds, west of the grandstand, in the parking area at 6:30 p.m. Members may vote and either drive away or stick around for the 6:30 meeting, staying in their cars. Members can listen on their radios to the brief meeting on 1370 AM/97.1 FM KSUM. The meeting agenda involves approving last year’s Annual Meeting minutes and the Nominating Committee’s minutes. Members will honk their vehicles’ horns to vote on the minutes. No other speeches will be done due to the drive-in format.
Ballots will be counted by Federated’s Nominating Committee and attorney after the meeting adjourns. Once the candidates are notified, the results will be announced to the membership by noon August 5 through the media, Federated’s Facebook page, website and in its September Connections newsletter.
Federated is a Touchstone Energy electric cooperative serving 6,800 members in Jackson and Martin Counties.
