HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL REINSTATED FOR FALL SEASON IN MINNESOTA. WORD CAME DOWN FROM THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE ON MONDAY. OFFICIAL START FOR PRACTICES FOR BOTH WILL BE MON. SEPT. 28. THE FIRST FOOTBALL GAMES CAN BE PLAYED ON OCT. 9 AND 10. THE REINSTATEMENT COMES WITH RESTRICTIONS AND STRICT ADHERENCE TO COVID-19 GUIDELINES FOR SAFETY.
The League’s Board, in a virtual meeting that had more than 400 people listening in, voted 14-4 to start the Volleyball season next Monday, September 28th. An 11 week season was approved, with 14 matches starting October 8th.
A vote on restarting the Football Season also passed. Practice will also start on September 28th, with a 6 game regular season and the post season format to be determined.
Last week the High School League survey leaders of its 500 member schools, asking for their views on where football and volleyball should be played in the fall of 2020 or spring of 2021.
The survey drew responses from 394 schools, with 80% wanting fall football and 76% wanting fall volleyball.
According to MSHSL officials, COVID-19 restrictions bar spectators from attending indoor events in school facilities, such as gyms or pools. They also limit 250 spectators for any outdoor sporting event.
