There will be no fare collections for any Prairie Lakes Transit ride beginning on Friday, May 1st, in both Faribault and Martin Counties. The policy will run until at least May 31st, at which time the Transit Board will determine if this policy is to be continued or if they will return to normal fare collections. Also, during this time there will be no token pack sale transactions.
Transit Officials report that many other systems have implemented similar policies during the pandemic as another means of protection for the staff to limit physical interaction between them and the riders.
The CARES Act from the Federal Government had a portion of it dedicated for public transit systems in the country to help with operating costs. The funds will cover 100% of operating costs until the funds run out.
