Gustavus Adolphus College is mourning the loss of one of its student athletes after a deadly car crash on Sunday. 19yearold freshman Jori Jones of Little Canada, who was traveling with her hockey team to Willmar, Minnesota, was killed in the collision.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Jones was riding in a Chevy Equinox along with three other freshman hockey players on Highway 40, approaching the Highway 29 intersection around 1 p.m. on Sunday. A Dodge Caravan, was driving south on Highway 29, when the two vehicles collided.

State Patrol says one of the cars failed to stop at a stop sign.

The other three hockey players, 19yo Gianna Gasparini of Lakeville, 20yo Kayla Bluhm of Chisago City, and 19yo Lily Mortenson of Champlin, were transported to Montevideo Hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge Caravan also suffered nonlife threatening injuries and was treated at the same hospital.

According to the report, everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
