An accident Thursday night on Highway 15 north of Fairmont injured two teen girls, one of them seriously. The incident, which occurred just after 10 p.m., happened just before the curve south of Northrop, when a 2001 International 9100-tractor truck driven by David Eugene Zellmer, 60, of Fairmont, was slowing to make a turn into a driveway. The truck, hauling grain, was rear-ended by a 2010 Ford Fusion. The driver, a juvenile female, was wearing a seat belt and suffered non-life threatening injuries according to the State Patrol report. The passenger, also a juvenile female, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered life-threatening injuries. The names of the females have yet to be released.
Both occupants of the Ford Fusion were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System Fairmont for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Fairmont Police, Fairmont Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol all responded to the scene.
