Commissioners – Levy Approved

The Martin County Board Tuesday Approved a resolution certifying the proposed 2020 property tax levy at $17.3 million, a 6.44 percent increase over the 2019 levy. Cuts to the levy can be made, and are expected, but the amount can no longer increase before final approval in December. The Truth in Taxation Hearing is set for Tuesday Dec. 3, at 6 PM. The Commissioners heard from Sarah Emery, regional manager for Avengrid Renewables concerning the Trimont Wind Repower Project. It is meant to upgrade to the existing Trimont Windfarm, a 100.5-megawatt wind generation facility that operates in Martin and Jackson counties. [...]

Martin County Commissioners heard from County Attorney Terry Viesselman on Tuesday regarding a policy update for county employees. He said “The sheriff had called me and inquired about one of our employees who wanted to know if it was OK to carry a handgun when he was in the courthouse, so we looked at that and the statute says that any employee or agent of an employee for a political subdivision, which would be the county, is forbidden from having a firearm while performing their official duties.” The law makes an exception for law enforcement and the county attorney, [...]

BOYS BASKETBALL FAIRMONT 74 REDWOOD VALLEY 70 The Martin County West Mavericks boys basketball team got the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Section 3AA, South Sub-Section playoffs. Martin County West will play host to the No. 5-seeded Fairmont Cardinals in a 7 p.m. sub-section quarterfinal game Saturday night in Sherburn. A memorial service for 77 year old Billy Jude of Rochester will be held on Thursday, 4/19 at 7 p.m. at the Joe Shmo funeral home. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-to-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Byron.
