FAIRMONT FIREFIGHTERS WERE DISPATCHED JUST AFTER 5:30 MONDAY MORNING TO A REPORT OF A LARGE FIRE IN THE DISTRIBUTION AREA OF GREEN PLAINS ENERGY ETHANOL PLANT IN FAIRMONT. UPON ARRIVAL FAIRMONT FIRE CHIEF BRANDON SCOTT SAID THE FIRE WAS PRETTY MUCH OUT, WITH ABOUT A FOOT OF WATER ON THE FLOOR OF STRUCTURE AFTER THE COMPANY’S DELUGE SYSTEM KICKED IN. CHIEF SCOTT SAID APPARENTLY A REJECT PUMP IN THE FACILITY EXPLODED AND IGNITED SOME ETHANOL AT THE PLANT. WELCOME FIRE WAS DISPATCHED AS WELL WITH MUTUAL AID FOR PERSONNEL ASSISTANCE IF NEEDED. FIREFIGHTERS WERE ON THE SCENE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF.
