Republican Jim Hagedorn defeated Democrat Dan Feehan by a margin of 1,311 votes, and will represent Minnesota’s First Congressional District when the 116th Congress convenes on January 3, 2019. The 1,311 vote margin is outside the automatic recount threshold of one-quarter of one percent found in Minnesota state law, Section 204C.35 Subd. 1 (b)(2).
“I appreciate the faith and confidence the people of southern Minnesota have shown in me, and I am honored to have the opportunity to represent them in Congress,” said Hagedorn. “We campaigned aggressively with a message of patient-centered healthcare, border security and work for welfare, and those positions more closely represented the views and values of southern Minnesotans than those of my opponent,” Hagedorn stated.
