On Tuesday, Martin County Commissioners approved a second round of County CARES Act Small Business Grants on Tuesday. The board had allocated $750,000 for small businesses within Martin County. After the first round of grant awards, there was approximately $382,376 remaining of the funds. After the second round, $28,716 remains. Martin County Commissioners approved disbursement of federal coronavirus relief funds Tuesday. The county has received $2.442 million. The funds are to be used for necessary expenditures incurred because of the public health emergency with respect to COVID-19. The expenses need to be incurred from March 1 to Dec. 1. Allocations approved include: $803,965 for county expenses and Human Services; $600,000 for area public and private schools; and $750,000 for business economic relief. This leaves $250,000 remaining. The Martin County Board Tuesday Approved a resolution certifying the proposed 2020 property tax levy at $17.3 million, a 6.44 percent increase over the 2019 levy. Cuts to the levy can be made, and are expected, but the amount can no longer increase before final approval in December. The Truth in Taxation Hearing is set for Tuesday Dec. 3, at 6 PM. The Commissioners heard from Sarah Emery, regional manager for Avengrid Renewables concerning the Trimont Wind Repower Project.
